Microsporosis is probably the most common fungal infection in cats and dogs, caused by fungi of the genus Microsporum. This disease is specific because it can be transmitted from animals to humans, and it usually occurs in late summer or early autumn.

Microsporosis is transmitted by direct contact with a sick cat or a dog, but also a carrier of pathogens, which may not have pronounced symptoms (a large number of healthy cats can be a carrier of pathogens in spore form).

The symptoms

Microsporosis in the cats (less frequently in dogs) manifests in one or more areas of alopecia or without hair on the animal's body. These changes to the skin can be substantially round, oval or irregularly shaped.

Diagnosis
